Lighting
The Reef Resort aims to have a low carbon footprint, meaning our resort will mostly utilize eco friendly, solar powered, energy saving materials.

The Reef Resort is a very open resort, depending mostly on natural lighting and natural air. Our concept is to provide an open feel and environment that is peaceful. Having such an open resort, you will be able to hear the sound of the waves and the birds chirping.

The Reef Resort will include Energy Star windows, skylights, and doors. These energy efficient materials will reduce heat gain and fading from furniture.

The electricity in the rooms will be controlled by a room key card energy control system, meaning a guest must be present in the room with the key card in order for the electricity to work. We will also include light dimmers in the rooms.

We will control the operating hours of lighting both inside and outside the resort. Pathways along the beach and pools will have dim lights that are motion censored. Dim lighting contributes to the peaceful and calm ambiance of the resort.
All of our lighting will be LED and energy efficient because it reduces the heat and lasts longer.

A fun way to generate electricity at the Reef Resort, is to ride the bicycle we include in the gym that produces electricity.

Solar roof tiles have just been announced by tesla, and we plan to use them once they are released. These solar roof tiles generate electricity, last longer, and provide better insulation. The instilled costs will be less than a regular roof plus electricity.
Heating
Considering that the hotel is very open, we will rely mostly on natural air as our air conditioning system.

The Reef Resort is well insulated, which prevents heat from getting in.

The resort has plenty of energy efficient ceiling fans that can help keep the resort cool.

Towards the winter we will use Energy Star qualified cooling and heating system to help warm up the resort.

The resort will have occupancy control of guest room HVAC equipment. This controls the temperature of the room depending on whether the guest is present or how the temperature is outside.
